Meet Our Pastor

Reverend Robert A. Bjerkaas

Bob Bjerkaas grew up in a Christian home in Columbia, Maryland where he came to faith in Christ during his middle school years.  While studying music at the University of Maryland, Bob sensed a call to the gospel ministry, switched his major to history, and began what would prove to be a ten year involvement in youth ministry.  Upon completion of his Bachelors degree, Bob earned his M.Div. at Chesapeake Theological Seminary in Linthicum, Maryland in 1998. A year later he was ordained by the PCA when he was called to pastor a church he had been serving as a stated student supply in St Albans, Vermont.  He served that church as its pastor for seven years, during which he time he completed a Th.M. in Reformation Studies at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Florida.  After a sabbatical, he accepted the call to pastor Church in the Canyon and began his work among us in the Fall of 2007.

Bob met his wife Kerrie in church at the age of five!  They have been married for eleven years and have four children: Christopher, Margaret, Timothy, and Nathaniel.  Bob and Kerrie enjoy family time very much.  Bob is often found playing with his kids at home or taking "adventure walks" with them along Medea Creek near their house.  Music, lacrosse, reading, writing, and fishing are among his other interests.

Meet Our Youth Director

TYLER VELA

Tyler Vela grew up in Boulder Creek, CA in Northern California. He came to know the Lord during the summer between his Community College and University years through a local ministry called Graceland at Santa Cruz Bible Church. He went on to study English and Philosophy at Sonoma State University, but during his Junior year felt the call into full time ministry. He got more involved in the youth ministry at his local church and after several years decided to restart his education in a different direction. He moved to Chicago and began to study Pastoral Ministry and Biblical Studies at Moody Bible Institute. There he continued his work in youth ministry at Christ Community Church where he led a weekly High School guys study. During his Senior year at Moody, Tyler completed a Pastoral Internship at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Hinsdale, IL. After graduation in May 2009, he and his wife Lindsay moved to Southern California so Lindsay could begin work on her masters in Marriage and Family Therapy at California Lutheran University and it was during this time of transition that the Lord opened up the way for the Youth Ministry Director position at CITC. Tyler accepted the call in late September of 2009.

Tyler met his wife Lindsay at Red Lobster in Rohnert Park California where both of them worked. They were best friends for a couple of years, then dated long distance while Tyler was in Chicago and were married in 2007. They look forward to decades of happy years to come. In their spare time they enjoy bring with friends and family, golfing, dining out, reading, and watching our favorite shows on Tivo.
